Road and asphalt works implementation

We deliver road and asphalt works as a complete engineering sequence that starts with survey setting-out and site preparation and ends with the wearing course, road marking and traffic safety works, executed to the approved drawings and to the survey plan signed off by the consultant, with inspection and conformity testing at every layer before the next one is placed.

Scope of worksRoads, car parks and hardstanding areas
Layer sequenceFrom subgrade through to the wearing course
Execution referenceApproved survey plan and the set-out level points
Sign-offInspection and conformity testing before each layer is approved

What road and asphalt works cover

  • Survey works
  • Excavation, backfilling and compaction

  8. Road marking and traffic safety works

  9. Review and final handover

Technical execution parameters

Level and location referenceApproved survey plan and the elevation points set out by the surveyor
Prime coatRC-1 sprayed at a rate that meets engineering standards
Binder course5–7 cm thick to the project mix specification
Tack coatRC-2 sprayed between the base asphalt layer and the layer above it
Wearing courseMix with improved smoothness and higher abrasion resistance
Compaction plantSteel-wheeled and rubber-tyred rollers to the required degree of compaction
Marking paintThickness conforming to the specification for each approved colour

Quality control and sign-off

  • Hold points between layers
  • Laboratory testing
  • Field testing
  • Documented inspection
  • Marking conformity

What the client receives

  • Approved layers
  • Test results
  • Acceptance records
  • A road ready for use

What the service covers

  • Complete layer sequence from subgrade to the wearing course
  • Execution driven by an approved survey plan and set-out level points
  • Compaction with steel-wheeled and rubber-tyred rollers to the required degree
  • Laboratory and field testing at every stage
  • Road marking, reflectors and information signs to the approved design

Our methodology

  1. 01

    Survey and site preparation

Setting out the site points, levels and locations for every element, with the setting-out approved by the consultant before work starts.

  2. 02

    Excavation and granular layers

Excavation, backfilling and compaction, then the subgrade, sub-base and base course, each with conformity testing before sign-off.

  3. 03

    Asphalt layers

Prime coat sprayed, then a 5–7 cm binder course, followed by the tack coat and the wearing course with the required compaction.

  4. 04

    Marking and handover

Ground marking applied and reflectors and information signs installed, then the works reviewed and handed over to the supervising authority.
